Historic Warship. HMS Warrior, venue for the Spring dinner and AGM

THE Spring Dinner, held on board the historic warship HMS Warrior in Portsmouth Dockyard was something of an occasion.

It followed the routine business of the AGM and provided a convivial, and appropriate venue for the Association's Spring event.

Guest of honour was YJA/Raymarine Yachtsman of the Year, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, and Association chairman Bob Fisher took the opportunity to present him with a decanter of malt whisky, to commemorate the third time Sir Robin has held the title.

PETER MILNE

It is with much sadness we announce the death on the day of the AGM of Peter Milne, one time editor of Yachts and Yachting and later technical editor of Yachting World.

His home was at Chichester.

A tribute to him was paid by Association president Peter Cook at the AGM.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has won the YJA's Yachtsman of the Year trophy on three occasions, each time for a round-the-world voyage.

But he assured the Association and Members at the HMS Warrior dinner at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard that he would not be a contender again, and had no plans for further round-the-world voyages.

Ellen MacArthur has also won the title on three ocasions.

The award was initiated in 1955 by the late Sir Max Aitken, a leading yachtsman in both sail and power, and who himself won the award in 1977 in recognition of his services to sport. The trophy now bears the names of the greatest achievers in British sailing over five decades.
